The Eurovision Song Contest: We did it again!
What a journey… The 2010 Eurovision Song Contest has come to an end! And what a contest it was! Our dear friends at host broadcaster NRK and my fellow EBU colleagues all did an amazing job in making Europe’s favourite TV-show for the 55th time. Under the slogan Share The Moment, Europe has been entertained with some of the best live television in the world. Thanks to everyone, and in particular Jarmo, Wouter, Jan, Wim, Andreas, Glen, Marco, Giel, Indrek, Alain, Gordon, Victor, Simon, Nicoletta, Avril, Peter, Tobjorn, Geir, Jon Ola, Hasse, Evy, Stina, Hege, Svante, Kati, Jorgen, Ola, Simen, Nina, Jan, Nando, Mechthile, Thomas, Stephen, Roland, Marcel, Eline and the good folks of the crew catering – the best ever! Did I forget you? Thank you too!
With over 2,000 journalists and 300 accredited fans on-site, I had the pleasure of serving as Manager Communication & PR for the third time in a row. Together with the NRK-team, we did it all: press conferences, photo shoots, online coverage, radio- and tv-interviews, live stand-ups, press releases, media alerts, pool photographers, and yes, we even took away some accreditations. Who doesn’t want to follow the rules, has to go! That also counted for Jimmy Jump, who interfered with the Spanish performance by dancing along on stage, and caused us quite some work during the live broadcast of the Final.
We worked hard for the past months weeks, but oh, did we have fun as well! The short breaks at the coffee machine, an occasional night out at the EuroClub, hanging around in the hotel lobby and at the SkyBar (with an amazing view over Oslo) and trying to fire our senior editor Andreas, which again didn’t work.
