Launching HowToLiveWow.com 0

Last night saw the beta launch of a new project I initated: HowToLiveWow.com. On this website you will find inspiring stories, useful tools and helpful advice on how to achieve your highest potential, so you can live a happier, healthier, wealthier and more successful life. This site also helps you to connect with others, spread the word and to positively change your environment and the world we live in.

Parallel to posting on HowToLiveWow.com I am writing a book, describing the extraordinary search for the answers to the questions that keep our generation busy, and write a book about it. The odds of coming up with an eye-opening book that can change the world, our personal happiness and our common future are very small. But I am willing to give it a try, because I believe it is worth it. The goal is to finish the book in the first half of 2010.

Check out HowToLiveWow.com and share it with your friends. Thanks a lot!

PS Those of you who visit often will notice that some of the posts you can read on the new website previously featured here.

Why (not) now? 1

People often seem to postpone the most precious events in their lives until after death, I just realized. Therefor, the question is: “Why (not) now?”

In my life, I experienced a couple of true ‘just jump’-moments. Moments in which you need to decide whether you go for it or not in a short time, based on gut feeling or a very quick analysis of pros and cons. You might wonder: “Looking back, did you take the right decision in those cases?” So far, I’d say “yes!” in every case. Because despite the consequences being positive or negative, the result was always a wonderful experience (or more than one!) or a priceless lesson (or more than one!).

“Don’t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful.”
Mark Victor Hansen

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Mark Twain

101 things I want to do in life 0

Last week, someone challenged me to make a list of 101 things I want to do in my life, people I’d like to meet, places I’d like to see, and so on. The number 101 is obviously more of random choice, but that certainly didn’t make the challenge less exciting!

I started my list with names of the people I’d like to meet in my life. Wouldn’t mind having a coffee with folks like Anthony Robbins, Barack Obama or Al Gore. Then I wondered: “Where do I want to go?” Iceland, New York, Fiji, Dubai… All on my list. So, what do I want to get done in my life? Publishing a book, getting a flying license, directing a live TV show…

After a lot of thoughts and staring at other people’s lists I couldn’t get further than a modest 40 things I want to get done in my life. That certainly challenges me to think about it a bit longer, but I can already tell you it is a great way of forcing yourself to live in a more concious way.

Do you want to challenge yourself as well? It doesn’t take more than a pen and a piece of paper, or an empty notepad file on your computer to make yourself a list of 101 things you want to do in your life. Good luck!

Wow! 1

I regularly asked myself what I truly want in my life. What’s my goal? What’s my purpose in life? Unfortunately, many do not think about what they truly want to do, feel, experience, have and achieve. This understanding inspired me to find a powerful answer to the question: How do I want my life to look, and what do I want to be to others? And one day, last year, I realized I knew the answer…

The day I die - I hope that’s a day in the far, far future - I want to be able to summarize my entire life in just one magical word: ‘Wow!’ The love of my life: Wow! My children: Wow! The friendships I had: Wow! The carreer I worked on with dedication and joy: Wow! The things I learned and passed on in life: Wow! The most beautiful spots on earth I had the opportunity to visit: Wow! What I managed to do for others: Wow!  continue reading »

5 tips on how to meet someone you would really like to meet 1

The other day I gave a brief seminar about embedding networking skills into , together with my friend and colleague Danny Mekic’, at the Utrecht University of Applied Sciences, in front of approximately 100 first-year students. It was a great evening with a fantastic audience. Someone from the public asked me the question: “What if I really would like to meet someone but not have direct access to this person?” An interesting question, and I would like to share the answer with you.

First of all, there are roughly to types of people. People in your inner circle, and people in your outer circle. In this context, I define people in your inner circle as people you can physically approach, directly call or otherwise contact personally without significant effort (apart from finding the guts to do it). A local politician, that cute guy or funny girl who lives across the street, etc. To those we have direct access. This blog post is about how to meet outer circle folks -  people you usually cannot easily get in touch with; a national politician, your pop idol, a famous religious leader… you name it!

To illustrate my example, I hereby share with you that I would love to meet one of the world’s most successful and acknowledged motivational speakers, Mr Anthony Robbins. My suggestions are not a 100%-success method - I would be selling such method for astronomical amounts! - but it certainly increases your chances! So, here we go… continue reading »
